As we head into a new year and a new lockdown, we're also looking at how our homes might evolve as we get stuck into 2021. Here are some trends we're counting on to rule 2021.
Cottagecore.
This is possibly the least surprising of these trends; cottagecore dominated the internet in 2020. If you haven't already seen it, cottagecore is inspired by simple country living, but elevated in a quaint, dainty kind of way- exactly as if you were living in a cottage in the woods. It values organic materials, self sufficiency and connection to nature, so wooden furniture, simple cottons and linens and clean, bright colours are all musts.

Maximalism
Maximalism isn't a new trend by any means, but it got a much needed update this year. It's an aesthetic defined by the maxim 'more is more', and as such is something people can be tempted to shy away from for fear of going 'too far'. The best way to create a maximalist home is to pick a palette of contrasting colours which create visual contrast, and to stick to it.
This has been a year characterised by nostalgia, so it makes sense that we're reaching for the beautiful things of years past. The most important thing when curating a vintage aesthetic is to pick a time frame, stick to it, and do your homework. Although the room itself is inspired by decades past, you can create the look with new furniture which will be better quality and last longer.

Light And Airy
With lockdown restrictions limiting our time outside, we're having to bring the sunlight indoors by creating light, airy spaces. If you have limited natural light in your home, a similar effect can be achieved by using light colours and strategically placing mirrors around your home.
Bringing the Outside In
Plants aren't just good to look at, they're also great for your mental health. Finding ways to bring them in and make them focal points in your home will brighten up your whole home. Start with low-maintenance plants and continue from there.
