When it comes to gift-giving, we all know that it's the thought that counts, but nobody can deny that it's really exciting when that thought is wrapped nicely. If your wrapping skills aren't quite up to par, here's a step by step on how to up your wrapping game.
The first and most important thing is choosing your paper well. If you aren't the best at wrapping, you're going to need to invest a little more in good quality paper, because thicker wrapping paper won't crease and squash as easily, which gives you more room for error. It also won't tear as easily, which means you'll use a lot less of it if you're accident-prone.

Once you've picked the right paper, it's time to get wrapping- this is where you'll want to consider the size and shape of your present. If you're a total novice, maybe don't try to wrap anything that comes in an irregularly shaped package on its own- try putting it into a small box and then wrapping that instead, or looking for a nice gift bag that you can top up with tissue paper. It's also worth remembering that if you wrap something that has a really distinctive shape on its own, you run the risk of ruining the surprise- just ask anyone who's family has ever tried to wrap them a football.

All you'll really need for the actual wrapping is a pair of sharp scissors and some double sided tape, which will help you to avoid rough edges and wonky paper making your work look shabby. There are dozens of great tutorials online for how exactly to wrap specific shapes, but you don't necessarily need to try anything massively complicated or fancy. Keeping it as simple as you can with the paper and then accessorizing nicely is a much better route if you're not an origami master.
For the top, add a tag that matches the paper and a nice ribbon or some twine- you can even wrap this around a few times to make the present look more interesting. If you're really going the extra mile this Christmas, you could tie a small bauble or bell onto the present as well.
